In the 1950s, as the main church was expanded, it was also physically raised to accommodate a downstairs "lower church." This ramp gives those requiring wheelchairs, strollers and similar devices the ability to join mass through the southeast entrance. More recently, a hydraulic lift chair was added by the northeast entrance.
