Though familiar Bible passages tell of John and Jesus Christ baptizing followers in rivers and the sea (John 3:23, Acts 8:38), there's also a scriptural foundation for baptism indoors in Acts 9:18 and 16:33.

The water used is necessarily clean, not only for the sake of hygiene, but also to preserve its symbolism -- a cleansing of our souls.

On the wall next to the font are additional symbols of baptism: the hand of God, the cross of Christ, bread and wine, and the Holy Spirit descending like a dove (Luke 3:22).
