Just outside the lower church, in the stairwell that leads to the door facing the rectory, there are devotional candles. On the left, St. Anthony of Padua holds baby Jesus. St. Mary is in the middle. And St. Teresa, right, holds the crucifix.

The Catholic Church encourages veneration of pious people in our history for their holy example. On the other hand, the Church reserves adoration and worship for God alone.

It's another centuries-old tradition in the Church to light candles in shrines like these.
